GIRLS U08 BLACK - UNDEFEATED SEASON 2014

Coach: Martin Johnson
Manager: Tony Goldstein

Coach Martin and the GU8 Black team capped off an undefeated 12-0 season with a 2-1 victory over Scripps Ranch United!  The girls found themselves in an unfamiliar position early in the first half when they fell behind 1-0, it was the first time they trailed all season. They rumbled back however late in the half with an equalizing goal before half.  The girls then took the lead on what eventually became the game winning goal mid way through the second half and never looked back!!!  What an amazing job by coach Martin and the girls all season, we are so proud of you!!

Rhyan, Lizzy, Wren, Hayden, Cadence, Claire, Nina, Emory, Katie, Gracie, and Ainsley

GU08 LA JOLLA LABOR DAY CLASSIC FINALISTS

Coach Martin and the GU8 girls finished off the summer with a 2nd place finish at the La Jolla Labor Day Classic!!!  The girls played with so much heart over the weekend and worked as hard as they could to try and bring home their first trophy.  After winning their first two games the girls stepped up against Encinitas Express.  Taking an early lead in the first half Express battled back and scored the game tying goal.  While trying to save the goal Wren Allen (the teams leading scorer the first two games) sprained her ankle and was out of the tournament leaving the girls with only 1 sub.  The fought hard and eventually lost 2-1.  They had already made the final and would see Encinitas again.  Already down 1 player the girls were up for the challenge.  The game was much like the first.  Both teams applying pressure on each end and eventually ending the first half tied 0-0.  Early in the second half the girls were applying a lot of pressure and looked like they were going to take the lead when Lizzy Mantz, who had scored several goals over the first few games, took a hard shot on her ankle and had to leave the game.  The girls had to finish the game without any subs.  With about 10 minutes left in the game a questionable handball call was made in the box giving Encinitas a penalty shot.  Katie Pope was in goal and was up for the challenge.  The Encinitas player took the shot and Katie got her fingertips on the ball but could not save it.  Encinitas took the lead and eventually won the the game 2-0. All the girls must be acknowledged for their hard work over the weekend. Cadence Mason and Hayden Goldstein dominated in defense all weekend turning back almost every opportunity the opposing teams threw at them.  Nina Jacobson, Claire Padilla and Ainsley Rochholz applying constant pressure from the outside midfield positions setting up multiple scoring opportunities. Rhyan Thomas, Lizzy Mantz and Wren Allen running up and down the field from the forward position scoring multiple goals throughout the weekend. Finally, Gracie "GiGi" Gonzales and Katie Pope for them not only playing great on the field as forwards but stepping up as the teams goalies and making multiple saves throughout the weekend! In four tournaments this summer the girls managed to make the finals three times!  They lost on penalty kicks in the semi final of the other tournament.  The girls managed three second place finishes losing one final to a team that was a year older 1-0, the next final again going to penalty shots after double overtime and losing by 1, and this the final tournament of the year playing shorthanded and proving to all of the parents that they are a team to be reckoned with!  Good luck this upcoming season girls!  We are all so very proud of you!

GU08 CHARITY CUP FINALISTS

Coach Martin Johnson and the girls U8 team made the final of the Charity Cup over Fathers Day weekend.  The girls played hard all weekend but fell short in the final 1-0 against the older GU9 San Elijo Matrix team.  The entire team played hard all weekend and gave it all they had.  This was the first time the girls have played together and looking at the results the future is bright for this group!!  Great Job U8 Girls, good luck the rest of the Summer!!!

GU15 REBELS CUP CHAMPIONS

Coach Michael's GU15 took home another title winning the Rebels Cup 1-0 against host Bonita Rebels.  This is the first tournament of the year for the girls and Coach Michael could not have asked for a better result.  The girls did not lose over the weekend winning 3-0, 5-1 and a 1-1 tie against the Rebels in pool play,  The final game was a back and forth battle tied 0-0 in the first half.  The tie was broken by Hailey Brockett about 7 minutes into the second half when Captain Tiffany Rangel found Hailey with a perfect through ball which she was able to hammer home just over the outstretched fingertips of the Rebels goalie.  The girls held on for the next 23 minutes and preserved the 1-0 victory. Great start ladies, good luck the rest of the Summer!
